Employment Problems

Many of us are unhappy in our jobs or careers.  We may feel dissatisfied, stymied by the lack of a "career ladder" or ways to advance ourselves, irritated by co-workers, or feel unappreciated or disregarded in being "passed over," "downsized," or "outsourced." Psychologists offer help in changing our ideas and perspectives about our work life.  They can help us explore our work interests and set new goals, manage the stress of changes in circumstances and responsibilities, or cope with negative feelings that come with job loss. Seeking help for these problems is usually a better choice than managing them in unhealthy ways or hoping they will disappear. Reaching out to a psychologist can be a difficult first step, but it may lead to better job performance and satisfaction, a better outlook or plan for the future, and improved quality of life.
