What should I expect from therapy?
You and your psychologist will usually start by discussing your concerns and goals, and formulating a way of approaching them. Your psychologist will suggest various avenues, ranging from new perspectives and new tools to assignments, readings, and strategies to apply between appointments. The length of the therapy and the time between sessions generally is tailored to your situation, as are the criteria by which you agree that progress is being made. You will probably agree to a periodic review of the usefulness of your treatment, and you may adjust the overall treatment plan as you proceed. In general, psychological services are a joint venture, where the psychologist and client work collaboratively to find solutions to daily concerns and improve quality of life.
